I finally watched the X files movie that came out like 2 years ago. Very disappointed in it. The whole thing turned out to be a mild form of murder mystery. There was nothing X files about it. No aliens, no conspiracies, nothing that linked itself to the show. It was like a boring extended episode of the Xfiles that they would use as filler between other story lines. What a shame. _________________ You either die being a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Legion: Silly movie about angels sent by God to end the human race and start over. Dennis Quaid and Paul Bettany were good in it, but that couldn't make up for the poor story.
Mongol: This was an interesting movie about the start of Genghis Khan. I kind of felt that the movie dragged in certain parts and the ending sort of was rushed. I know they can't possibly tell the whole life story of this man, but the parts they did show could have been improved a bit. Overall it was fascinating. _________________ You either die being a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

"Sin City". Stylistically it was beautiful, but the dialogue and themes were clearly from Frank Miller's pen (which isn't always a good thing) and sometimes turned the script unintentionally funny. _________________ My deviantART

Just tonight: The Lightning Thief -- and I really liked it!
If you go, sit through the first part of the ending credits, just past the names of the actors. There's a small surprise waiting for you after they run... _________________ "Pegasus isn't really bad, he just has issues.... Watched a ton of movies the past couple of weeks.
The Crazies: For a relatively no name cast, it was pretty good. The ending I found was slightly silly, but the overall creepiness was well done.
Seven Pounds: This movie was alright, but I found the screenplay to be awkward. Too much disjointedness in everything.
Law Abiding Citizen: This was downright silly. Story and all.
Astroboy: This was disappointing to me as a story and a movie.
My One and Only: Funny movie, a nice watch.
Taking Woodstock: Demetri Martin, don't quit your day job. Acting is not for you. _________________ You either die being a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

Tim Burton's 'Alice in Wonderland'. I went in desperately wanting to love it, and wondering how I could not with the entire package being what it was. Tim Burton, a huge cast of people I adore... but I was extremely disappointed. Frankly, I was rather bored. I didn't think it was particularly funny, creepy, emotional, or anything. The actors all gave fine performances, but it just felt like Burton's heart was not in this, almost as if he was in it for the money (something he occasionally does in order to fund the movies he REALLY cares about making. I know a lot of people who love it, but for me, something was just missing. _________________ “We live in a shockingly beautiful world. As I mentioned in the books, I have been buying an inordinate amount of books and movies on AMazon.com (cheap and great stufF). Lately I have been watching Katherine Hepburn movies with my two favorites being Desk Set (a great look at librarians in the 50's and how they worked with technology) and Woman of the Year (a wonderful portrayal of a strong confident woman and her relationship with a laid-back sports columnist, Spencer Tracey).
Now I am going through film noir with the Postman Always Rings Twice (I had also seen Double Indemnity which is a similar plot in a sexy married woman enticing a naive guy to kill her husband), but I like Postman a lot better because it also deals with the aftermath of the crime with the lovers turning on each other. (Plus the irony of Lana Turner playing the femme fatale in Postman with her RL problems afterwards is just too tantalizing)
Next is Dial M for Murder and the Maltese Falcon. _________________ "There is no frigate like a book to take us lands away, nor any coursers like a page of prancing poetry"~ Emily Dickenson

Saw Where the Wild Things Are. I was somewhat disappointed. I wanted to like it...but...I dunno. It seemed to lag. I agree. I watched it as well and was also sorely disappointed. The story could have been so much better. I'm sad that Spike Jonze did not do a better job. I was also not impressed by Max. He was supposed to be a boy filled with imagination and not some weirdly spoiled kid who throws a fit for no reason. I really feel their choice in actor was poor and the movie could have been way better. _________________ You either die being a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

I saw Alice in Wonderland, and maybe because I don't like most Tim Burton/Johnny Depp movies, (I went in because it was based on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) so I didn't go in expecting much, but I loved it. I particularly liked how they dealt with how a grown Alice would have trouble adjusting to the staid Victorian life.
I also watched a Humphry Bogart double feature with The Maltese Falcon and Casablanca, both good films! First time I watched Falcon, I loved it! One of my favorite noirs. _________________ "There is no frigate like a book to take us lands away, nor any coursers like a page of prancing poetry"~ Emily Dickenson

Making Max a brat was okay. He was supposed to be punished for being bad. But...once he got to the land of the Wild Things, it just seemed like there was nothing for him to do. The story kinda became sad and they never really explained why there was as much conflict as there was. And then there wasn't any real resolution either... _________________ "I just have to come clean and I'm nervous because I lie a lot on Twitter so that I seem cooler." - Mary Lynn Rajskub |
